Quick answer

Both are disposable dust masks certified to EN 149. FFP2 filters at least 94% of test particles and suits moderate dusts and mists. FFP3 filters at least 99% and is used for fine and hazardous dusts such as silica, wood dust and some fumes. Both only work if they seal, so each wearer needs a face-fit test.

Mask questions

Is FFP3 better than FFP2?

FFP3 filters more, at least 99% against 94%, but it can be harder to breathe through. Choose the class your risk assessment calls for.

Which mask for silica dust?

HSE guidance for work such as cutting stone and concrete often calls for FFP3 or equivalent. Check your COSHH assessment.

Do FFP2 and FFP3 masks need a face-fit test?

Yes. Tight-fitting masks need a face-fit test for each wearer, and the wearer must be clean-shaven where the mask seals.
